This 252-page protest letter, submitted by the Western Environmental Law Center and allied conservation groups, asks the Bureau of Land Management to halt the New Mexico and Wyoming Q2 2026 oil and gas lease sales covering more than 180 parcels. It argues that BLM’s environmental review is legally inadequate under NEPA, FLPMA, ESA, and related authorities because it fails to fully address cumulative climate impacts, methane and flaring, water and air pollution, wildlife and special-status species, cultural resources, and harms to nearby communities before leasing moves forward.
