“Great Americans” is a recurring NBC Nightly News series commemorating America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Introduced by anchor Tom Llamas, the series profiles Americans whose accomplishments, courage, creativity, and public service reflect the best of the nation.
The September 18 profile features Cheryl Schreier, executive chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks and the first woman to serve as superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. During the two-minute, 27-second segment, Schreier reflects on her nearly four decades with the National Park Service, some of her most memorable experiences at Mount Rushmore, and the lasting influence she hopes her career in public service will have—both within and beyond America’s national parks.
