Conservation Groups Protest Utah BLM’s Q4 2025 Oil & Gas Lease Sale
October 23, 2025 — Salt Lake City, UT
Rocky Mountain Wild, the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) have filed a formal protest against the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) proposed Q4 2025 Competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale in Utah.
The sale would open 46 parcels totaling over 68,000 acres for drilling across public lands. The groups argue that the BLM’s Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact fail to adequately account for climate change impacts, threats to wildlife and cultural sites, and cumulative environmental damage.
The protest calls on the BLM to withdraw all parcels from the sale and conduct a more rigorous environmental reviewconsistent with national climate and conservation goals.
“Public lands should be part of the climate solution, not a source of more fossil fuel emissions,” the groups stated.
