Synopsis:
The Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks joined the Western Environmental Law Center, Center for Biological Diversity, Living Rivers & Colorado Riverkeeper, Montana Environmental Information Center, Waterkeeper Alliance, WildEarth Guardians, and Wyoming Outdoor Council in submitting scoping comments on the Bureau of Land Management’s proposed fourth quarter 2026 oil and gas lease sales in Montana-Dakotas and Wyoming.

The proposed sales include 20 nominated parcels administered by the Montana-Dakotas State Office and 274 nominated parcels administered by the Wyoming State Office. The groups urge BLM to defer all parcels until it completes a full programmatic environmental review of the federal fossil fuel leasing program. The comments emphasize the need for BLM to fully evaluate cumulative greenhouse gas emissions, climate impacts, methane waste, groundwater protection, wildlife and habitat impacts, environmental justice concerns, and potential impacts to public lands and national park resources, including areas near Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
