Coalition Supports Mimbres Peaks National Monument Designation

Today, a diverse coalition of elected officials, organizations, and community members launched a campaign in support of the Mimbres Peaks National Monument. The group has identified over 245,000 acres in the Mimbres Peaks – the Good Sight Mountains, Florida Mountains, Cookes Range, and Tres Hermanas – as land worthy of the permanent protections of a national monument designation.

“The public lands encompassed in the proposed Mimbres Peaks National Monument are biologically and ecologically significant and protect important historic and cultural sites” says Mike Murray, Chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks. “A national monument designation will not only ensure the protection of important resources, but it will also help to protect outdoor recreation opportunities that support the economy in Southern New Mexico.”

“We urge President Biden to use his authority under the Antiquities Act to and take action to designate the Mimbres Peaks National Monument.”
